What Surfais is

Surfais is a UK software company that measures how AI answer engines describe a brand. It runs a defined set of prompts against five AI engines on a schedule, records every response, extracts the brands and sources named in those responses, scores the result as the AIS Score, and returns a prioritised list of what to change.

Surfais is a measurement and analytics product for the AI-search surface. It is not a content-writing tool, not a keyword rank tracker, and not an SEO agency.

AI engines measured

Surfais measures five engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.

All five engines are included on every paid plan. There are no per-engine add-ons, no engine gating by tier, and no upsell required to reach any engine.

The AIS Score

The AIS Score is a single 0-100 figure describing how visible a brand is in AI answers. Its weights are published, not proprietary. As at version 2, adopted 10 June 2026:

SignalWeightWhat it measures
Visibility60%How often the brand is named across the five engines
Position15%Where the brand ranks among the brands an answer lists
Sentiment10%How positively the answer frames the brand
Share of voice15%The brand's share of the whole AI conversation in its category

Version 2 replaced version 1 weights of 45/25/15/15. The change was made because version 1 gave any brand with a single mention a floor of roughly 50-55, and a real customer with six mentions in sixty-nine runs was being shown a rating of "Good - competitive" against the product's own band description of "Poor - largely invisible". The recalibration lowered the scores shown to paying customers. The full method is published at surfais.com/methodology.
